In today’s episode of Burn it Down, Don’t Reno, Silver Linings, it’s hard to see past the defects.
The Carpet Guy handled the materials and carpet install for our renovations, the owner and his team were pleasant, friendly, and professional and did an excellent job with the install. We are truly enjoying the quality of the product, especially in comparison to the 30+ year old stuff that we had. They were shorted material for the install and had the additional material in hand and installed in short order. I did find one minor problem with the install, the tack strips surrounding the fireplace tile weren’t knocked down so you could feel them when stepping on the border. Someone showed up in short order, on a Saturday, and resolved the issue. Very pleased with the results.
Rock Tops Fabrication fabricated and installed the counter tops for the kitchen and two bathroom vanities with undermount sinks. The quartz counter tops and sinks look great and are perfectly level. There was some delay with install one of the vanities, don’t know what it was though. I was home when they installed the second vanity and Rock Tops was also friendly, pleasant and professional, the acetone used to clean the adhesive off the counter top and sinks was overwhelming, but I had already planned to leave the house after the install. Sometime later, I noticed a couple of spots of what I believed to be leftover adhesive on one of the sinks, I called and in short order scheduled someone for cleanup. He arrived a little early and made short order of the issue; however, his service didn’t end there, he took the time to go over every inch of our other counter tops and then took the time to talk to me about caring for the quartz and their recommended products.
While The Carpet Guy and Rock Tops were subcontractors, Quality Frameless Showers was recommended to use by our contractor and we dealt with them directly. The initial visit for measurements and to pick a door, colors, etc. went well and after a little confusion on my part an order was placed and the install scheduled. Sadly their supplier sent the wrong glass for out install, so things were delayed a little. After the faux pas, QFS opted to reschedule after they knew they had the right materials. The installer was great and the sliding door looks awesome. He took the time to go over the doors operation and features, a lot has changed since we last had a sliding shower door our new door is so much stronger and sturdy than what I’ve seen in the past.
Which brings me to Master Locksmith (247masterlocksmith.com), they helped us with the emergency re-key of our six exterior Schlage locks along with a lockout, we’re so used to having the smart lock we don’t always check for keys. Both locksmiths were easy to work with and both had a good sense of humor. The first took a while to re-key six locks, but it was done that night after our keys flew into a kitchen drawer of their own accord, so I didn’t care about the time only that the work got done. He took the time to have met test each door as he completed it. The tech who handled the lockout was very proud of how fast he was able to break into our house as the deadbolt wasn’t locked. (PSA: Always lock your deadbolts.)
(Oops, forgot to add) Becky told me she wanted blinds instead of curtains and suggested Next Day Blinds, which is now 3 Day Blinds. I made the call and scheduled a visit for their sales person to drop by so we could make our selections. In short, Eric was the prefect person to pull us out of our reno funk for at least awhile. He quickly walked us through options and set us to making color choices, he didn’t hover and we never had to wait on him. Once the blinds were made, we scheduled the install and again things went swimmingly. Simple quick process with no mess, the installer found a small tear that I honestly wouldn’t have cared about, but he had already started the replacement process. The reinstall went just as well. We’re very happy with the results, especially the motorized blackout blind in the living room. There are also blackouts in our bedroom with faux wood blinds in the office and kitchen. I wasn’t a fan of the idea of blinds, but I also wasn’t looking forward to picking curtains, rods, etc., now that we have them I’m a definite fan of the ability of the cellular (blackout) shades to block light and their ease of operation.
Just thought I should share the good things, in case you thought I could only see negatives.
